There has been very little insight or debate recently about the part individual women play in the contentious abortion debate. Pro-choice people will concede that some abortions are performed for convenience. Other abortions — for example, those that are performed in the case of an ectopic pregnancy — are medically necessary and are life-and-death issues for the mother. So how do we decide which abortions are necessary and which are unnecessary? Do we leave it to doctors? A panel of doctors?
